Fitness Suite Press Release

FITNESS fanatics, dance enthusiasts, sports fans and community groups are set to benefit from a £70,000 redevelopment of the Crickhowell Community Sports Centre by Crickhowell High School and Governing Body, who have now taken over the operation and management of the facility from Powys Sport and Leisure.

The launch of these exciting new facilities will take place on Friday 12th February: members of the public are most welcome to attend the Open Evening from 6pm.

Located on the Crickhowell High School site, the updated and improved facilities will be opened to the public along with the state of the art Ddraig Goch Fitness Centre, a dance studio with semi sprung floor, a refurbished multipurpose sports hall and a brand new adult education suite complete with IT facilities.

“We welcome meeting groups, educational classes, training courses and aim to provide facilities to cater to all of the community. We are already experiencing an uptake in the use of our facilities and consequently have extended the opening hours to cater for this, providing greater access to the public.” said Headteacher Jackie Parker.

Sport and Community Development Officer Annaliese Lewis added “We are catering for everyone in the community, whether they are sports orientated, gym members or dance groups.”

With contributions from the Crickhowell and District Community Partnership – a voluntary group dedicated to bringing sports and leisure facilities to the town – the opening signifies the completion of phase one of the entire project. As Annaliese explains: “Phase two will involve the upgrading of the outdoor areas allowing all weather use for sports including football, rugby, hockey and tennis.”

With a wide range of exciting, modern and new machines in the fitness suite, interest has already been keen. Members of the public can access the site from 4pm-10pm Monday to Friday, 12.30pm-4.30pm Saturday and 10am-1pm Sunday. There will be extended daytime opening hours during school holidays published on our website.

Further information can be obtained by contacting the Centre on 01873 810997, centre@crickhs.org or visiting our website www.crickhowellcscentre.co.uk.

The official launch with Crickhowell Town’s Mayor and other dignitaries will be between 3pm and 4pm. Members of the public are invited to view what’s on offer between 6pm and 9pm, with promotional offers available on the night.
